However, the work they do and their position in a product’s life cycle are different. Process engineering falls between R&D and production, while production engineering takes place parallel to production. The process engineering department is in charge of implementing the actions needed to mass produce prototypes created by R&D. The production engineering department is in charge of designing and providing production tools to improve the overall productivity of the company, improve working conditions and provide analysis tools required for standard cost studies.
